Backpage Sex Ads Are Gone – Child Trafficking – Hardly

PATH is in agreement with our consultant, John Vanek, who states:  “This article is worth reading, as it illustrates several of the complexities in responding to sex trafficking:  the efficacy of “shutting down” online sites like Backpage, and the challenges to supporting victims/survivors.  It also includes a quote from Sgt. Eric Quan at the San Jose Police Deppartment, (where John ran the Anti-Trafficking Task Force), and mentions AWAKEN, an organization which is a very active NGO in Reno, NV.  Read the article here.  3/12/17

Jumping to Conclusions

John Vanek, a nationally recognized expert in fighting human trafficking, serves as a consultant to the PATH Steering Committee.  Regarding this article he states:  “Interesting article about victimization of youth in Kentucky. If you read the article it clearly states the study did not inquire into details about the trafficker. So I suspect those engaging in survival sex (where there is no trafficker profiting from the commercial sex act) may be included in the stats to some extent. Regardless, too many youth are homeless, and are victimized in too many ways.”  Read the article here.  3/3/17
